This page is written for people who buy emerald to resell or to set — jewellers, dealers, designers and lapidaries. If you are buying a single stone for yourself, the loose stones page is the better starting point.
How parcels are actually quoted
Retail sells one stone with one price. Trade sells weight, and the quote has to carry enough structure that you can price your own work off it. Every parcel we quote states:
| Quoted | Why it matters to you |
|---|---|
| Total carat weight and piece count | Average stone size, which drives what you can build |
| Size range in millimetres | Whether it drops into calibrated settings without recutting |
| Colour range, not a single grade | A parcel is a spread. A single grade on a parcel is a sales claim |
| Clarity enhancement across the lot | Your disclosure obligation downstream is inherited from ours |
| Origin | What you can honestly represent to your own customer |
| Price per carat, with the weight it was quoted at | Per-carat figures are meaningless without the parcel size behind them |
If a supplier will not break a parcel down this way, you are being asked to price blind and carry the disclosure risk for goods you cannot describe.
The three parcel types
- Calibrated goods. Matched to standard millimetre sizes so they drop straight into commercial settings. You are paying for consistency and sorting labour, not rarity.
- Mixed rough by weight. For cutters who would rather take yield risk than pay someone else’s cutting margin. Priced by the kilo. See buying rough emerald.
- Matched pairs and suites. Colour-matched for earrings or a set. The premium is in the matching, which is slow work and the reason these cost more per carat than singles.
Terms, plainly
- First order is prepaid. No exceptions, no offence intended. We do not know you yet and you do not know us.
- Memo terms after that, for established accounts, on goods we have supplied before.
- Parcels ship insured and fully declared, with the customs classification on the outside of the box. Under-declaring to reduce your duty is not something we will do, and any supplier who offers it is telling you how they handle everything else.
- Inspection window on arrival. If the parcel does not match the quoted breakdown, it goes back at our cost.
- Disclosure travels with the goods. You receive the clarity-enhancement grade in writing, because you need it to meet your own obligation to your customer.
What we will not do
Worth stating, because these are the standard asks in this trade and the answer is no.
- We will not describe a parcel more favourably than it grades.
- We will not omit clarity enhancement from an invoice.
- We will not under-declare a shipment’s value.
- We will not supply a single-grade description for a mixed parcel.
Everything above costs us margin in the short run. It is the entire reason a jeweller can resell our goods without having to re-verify them first.
Why disclosure is worth more to you than to us
If you set a stone and tell your customer it is untreated, and it turns out to carry moderate oil, the complaint lands on you — not on whoever sold it to you. The US Jewelry Guides put the disclosure duty on the seller at every step of the chain, which means our grading becomes your defence.
That is the practical argument for buying from someone who discloses: it is not ethics, it is risk transfer. See what the oil grades mean and certification.
Trade questions
What is the minimum order?
It varies by parcel type — calibrated goods carry a carat minimum, mixed rough is sold by the kilo. Call 888-296-4870 and ask for trade with the sizes and volumes you actually need, rather than working from a published minimum that may not fit your bench.
Do you offer memo terms?
After the first order, for established accounts, on goods we have supplied before. The first transaction is prepaid in every case.
Can I see the parcel before committing?
Yes. Parcels are photographed in diffuse light with the breakdown attached, and there is an inspection window on arrival. If the goods do not match the quoted breakdown they return at our cost.
Will you under-declare the shipment value?
No. Parcels ship insured and fully declared with the customs classification on the box. A supplier willing to falsify a declaration for you is telling you how they handle disclosure too.
Do parcels come with laboratory reports?
Individual stones over roughly a carat can be sent for certification on request. Certifying every stone in a commercial parcel costs more than the parcel is worth, so parcels travel with our written grading instead.
Can I resell these as Colombian?
Only to the extent our documentation supports it. We state origin where we can evidence it and say so plainly where it is an opinion rather than a laboratory finding — because you inherit that representation when you resell.
